The Brief
Asia Society Australia’s Viet Nam Initiative is focused on building closer economic relations between our two nations. The Initiative presents research and insights from Australian leaders and companies active in Viet Nam, highlights opportunities and risks in bilateral economic engagement and connects organisations and leaders to strengthen people-to-people connectivity. The report is to be given to Prime Minister, government officials and prominent business people in Viet Nam for introducing them to do business with Australia.
The process
Data are given: Photos that are taken from mobile phones, logos and Microsoft words.
Methodology Design thinking:
Core activities are inspiration, ideation, and implementation, which occur across the five stages of the process:
- Empathise: Understand the reader and the landscape of Viet Nam. What do Australian leaders and professional businesses want to know about Viet Nam? How to make the report cover interesting for Business leaders to grab from desks? How to make the inside of the report easy to read and understand and uncluttered. How to create an easy-to-understand infographic.
- Define: Define the problem and align it with business goals and readers. The main objective is for Australian Leaders and Business professionals to come and explore doing business in Viet Nam, the reports need to showcase Viet Nam business environment pictures. Sample from National graphic magazine models, Forbes and Time were explored to create similar looks and feel which are already familiar to educated Australian leaders.
- Ideate: Generate a range of ideas for possible designs, emphasizing creativity. 4 covers were made for this project. City, culture and architecture were chosen to showcase the report. Golden Bride photo was chosen as “Bridge” is a good example to connect Australia and Viet Nam. It is a mix of business destinations, architecture and landscape.
- Prototype: Explore potential designs by creating two mockups of the book to gather feedback from the client and printer. Mock-up report presented to client signed and submit to the printer. This report has three panels inside which makes production slower and more expensive to produce, therefore perfect mock-up report is very important to be given to the printer.
- Production and reproduction: The first edition was printed, and we found some minor errors from the client’s side, second batched produced again for the second year. This is an iterative cycle to get it perfect.
4 covers design were given and a few pages were to get the look and feel.
The design
Here is the PDF link to the book, I have to save all pages in very low-quality mode to keep it under 5 MB requirement from the site.
