The Brief
Tasman Food needs packaging for the newly released product Japanese Pork Gyoza. Two days was the timeline given to produce this box design.
About Tasman Food International:
Tasman Foods International is a wholly Australian-owned and run business with over 34 years in the food industry. Our early focus was on core Asian food products and over time many of our brands have become veritable staples within Australia’s Asian communities. As the market has evolved we have continually expanded and developed our product lines to meet the needs of consumers. Today, we specialise in the innovation, manufacture and distribution of frozen foods, with a focus on premium finger food and seafood.
The Process
DAY 1
To obtain the correct custom measurements for the boxes, I utilized a template from Carton and Paper Engineering that used the standard packaging design ECMA. I was given eight trays of 250 grams for a box trial. I saved the ECMA software file output as a PDF, then produced the box using a Digital Diecut machine with 3mm corrugated single flute kraft material. After assembling the box and filling it with the eight trays, I tested the rip line to ensure that it functioned correctly for supermarket team members. The box underwent three design iterations.
DAY 2
The client approved the box size in the morning, and I quickly created the layouts to complete the work efficiently. The initial short print run will be full-color to make a strong impact for the product launch, while the larger run will be in black and white. Fortunately, the design was approved on the first presentation.
